Eriophyllum nevinii 'Canyon Silver' - Woolly Sunflower
A beautiful native California shrub from the Santa Barbara Channel Islands with dissected silver leaves, much like dusty miller. It produces yellow star-shaped flowers in early summer and held in a tight inflorescence and turn to an appealing chocolate brown color. It can grow 4 to 6 feet tall and wide. Plant in full sun in a well drained soil. It has low water needs and go without irrigation in coastal gardens. To retain a dense plant with good form it is best to give a hard pruning in late fall or winter as new growth emerges. Hardy to 25 degrees F. A Santa Barbara Botanic Garden Introduction. This plant was selected by Horticulturist Carol Bornstein for its fine textured gray foliage. The plant that has been growing in the Santa Barbara Botanic Garden since at least 1981.
